New Delhi: A 17-year-old boy was critically injured after being shot by three men near a foot overbridge in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur area on Monday night, police officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The victim, Aryan, a resident of Jahangirpuri, sustained two bullet wounds and was immediately rushed to the trauma centre at Civil Lines for emergency treatment. The Delhi Police received information about the incident from the hospital around 10:14 p.m.

According to Aryan’s mother, Neetu, who witnessed the attack, the shooting occurred while she, Aryan, and their acquaintances Ranjeeta and Nikhil were standing near the foot overbridge opposite a colony’s main gate in Azadpur.

Neetu identified the attackers as Laddu, Shamsher, and Shanu, all reportedly residents of Jahangirpuri. “The assailants arrived at the location and opened fire without warning,” said a senior police official.

Following the attack, the crime scene was secured and examined by forensic experts and the crime investigation team. A case has been registered at Adarsh Nagar police station under relevant sections of the IPC and Arms Act.

A search operation is currently underway to apprehend the three suspects, who are absconding. While the exact motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, authorities are not ruling out personal enmity or past disputes.

Further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
