AAP Councillors Protest Outside Delhi Mayor’s Office, Demand Resignation or Action Over Central Zone Garbage Crisis

Date:

New Delhi: Tensions flared outside the office of Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Friday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors staged a protest demanding either his resignation or immediate action to resolve the garbage crisis in the city’s Central Zone.

Scores of AAP councillors gathered outside the Mayor’s office, holding placards and shouting slogans, alleging that despite repeated complaints, the civic body has failed to clear garbage from several areas in the Central Zone. They accused the BJP-led MCD administration of negligence and poor sanitation management even after taking charge of the civic body four days ago.

Leading the protest, Ankush Narang, AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the MCD, said, “If the Mayor cannot ensure basic cleanliness, he should step down. Delhi residents are suffering because of uncollected waste, especially in Central Zone localities.”

Protesters claimed that despite raising the issue multiple times within the municipal setup, no visible improvement has taken place on the ground. They said Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh’s absence from the office during the protest shows the administration’s indifference to public grievances.

The councillors insisted that the garbage backlog be cleared and sanitation services be immediately ramped up. AAP has also signaled that this issue will be raised in the upcoming MCD House meetings if no action is taken.
