Approximately 11,000 Electric Buses to Be Deployed in Five Major Cities, Including Delhi, Under the PM E-Drive Scheme

New Delhi: The Indian government is set to deploy around 11,000 electric buses across five major cities, including Delhi and Bengaluru, as part of the current phase of the PM E-Drive scheme, announced Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

This announcement was made during a meeting chaired by the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, focusing on the rollout of electric buses under the initiative.

“After extensive discussions, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has confirmed that approximately 4,500 electric buses will be allocated to Bengaluru, 2,000 to Hyderabad, 2,800 to Delhi, 1,000 to Ahmedabad, and 600 to Surat in this phase of the PM E-Drive Scheme,” an official statement revealed.

Kumaraswamy emphasized that cities from Bengaluru to Delhi are actively adopting electric buses to enhance the cleanliness, intelligence, and efficiency of public transport.

“We are not just distributing electric buses; we are pioneering the future of India’s transportation system with a focus on innovation and environmental sustainability,” the minister stated.

He further noted, “Through close collaboration between the central government and states such as Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, and Gujarat, we are committed to fulfilling the promises of the PM E-Drive initiative.”

The PM E-Drive initiative aims to deploy a total of 14,028 electric buses, with a financial investment of ₹10,900 crore over a two-year period, from April 2024 to March 2026.
