Delhi | Bobby Kinnar’s Exit Marks 16th AAP Councillor to Join Indraprastha Vikas Party

Date:

New Delhi: Bobby Kinnar, who made history as the first transwoman to secure a seat in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in 2022, has officially resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the newly established Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP). Kinnar’s departure marks her as the 16th councillor to leave AAP in favor of this emerging political entity.

On Saturday, a group of 15 AAP councillors announced their resignation, citing feelings of neglect and dissatisfaction with the party’s performance within the civic body. This collective decision led to the formation of the Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP).

Representing Ward No. 43 in the Sultanpur Majra Assembly constituency, Kinnar expressed her profound disappointment with the operations of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). “The residents are frustrated due to the lack of development in our ward. I chose to leave the party because I am committed to serving the people,” Kinnar stated during a press conference.

In a significant political shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) elected Raja Iqbal Singh as Delhi’s new mayor on April 25, marking the party’s return to power in the MCD after a two-year hiatus.

Kinnar voiced her concerns regarding the “lack of support” within AAP, stating, “There is widespread dissatisfaction. No one listens to the councillors, and we are often denied the opportunity to voice our concerns. There is no platform for discussion. How can we expect to accomplish anything if the House operates ineffectively? Our sessions rarely last more than five minutes. We need a system that allows for serious dialogue on pressing issues.”

Mukesh Goel, a senior leader of the newly formed IVP, emphasized their commitment to public service.
