Delhi | MCD Commissioner Urges Swift Action on Drain Desilting Ahead of Monsoon Season

Date:

New Delhi: In a proactive move to mitigate the impact of the upcoming monsoon, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Ashwani Kumar has directed all departments to accelerate the desilting of critical drainage systems. During a meeting held on Tuesday, he emphasized the importance of enhancing real-time coordination and deploying emergency response teams in areas prone to waterlogging.

Kumar highlighted that early intervention, the integration of technology, and establishing joint accountability are essential strategies for effectively addressing recurring waterlogging challenges.

The inter-departmental meeting, aimed at bolstering preparedness and preventing waterlogging during the monsoon, brought together key officials, including Additional Commissioner Jitender Yadav and Engineers-in-Chief P.C. Meena and K.P. Singh, along with senior engineers from all 12 MCD zones.

The discussions centered on resolving issues at identified waterlogging hotspots and fostering improved collaboration among various agencies. Key action points included the immediate desilting of critical drains, real-time coordination during rainfall events, the deployment of emergency teams in flood-prone areas, and the utilization of centralized digital platforms for monitoring and communication.

Kumar reiterated the significance of early intervention and accountability across departments in overcoming monsoon-related challenges. “Monsoon preparedness is a collective responsibility. Seamless coordination and proactive execution are crucial to preventing waterlogging in the city,” he stated, assuring that the MCD will continuously monitor progress.

In addition, the civic body has encouraged residents to report any instances of waterlogging or blocked drains through the MCD helpline or the MCD 311 mobile app, ensuring prompt resolution of grievances.
