Delhi Hit by Dust Storms and Rain, Gusty Winds Expected

Date:

New Delhi: On Saturday, parts of Delhi experienced a dust storm followed by rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting gusty winds and additional showers in the hours ahead.

Areas across central, southern, southwestern, and northern Delhi, as well as parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), including Noida, were affected by thunderstorms and dust storms.

In its latest weather advisory, the IMD stated, “Continuing from our previous alert, dust storms accompanied by thunderstorms, light to moderate rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 km/h are highly likely across Delhi and the NCR in the coming hours.” Reports from some regions, including Noida, indicated instances of tree uprooting due to the storm’s intensity.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature in the national capital reached 40.8 degrees Celsius, which is 0.4 degrees above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature recorded was 24.3 degrees Celsius, falling 2.2 degrees below normal.

Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with rain for Sunday, with expected maximum and minimum temperatures around 42 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively.
