Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Orders Immediate Action to Remove Garbage Mountains from Landfill Sites

Date:

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a strong stance against the slow waste disposal practices of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). She has ordered the immediate removal of garbage mountains from all landfill sites in the city.

During a high-level review meeting with senior officials, Gupta expressed her dissatisfaction with the current waste management efforts. She instructed the MCD to provide daily progress reports on the Mega Cleanliness Campaign to ensure tangible improvements on the ground.

Gupta emphasized that cleanliness is a top priority for the Delhi government, and every area of the city should receive equal attention. She stressed the importance of sanitation beyond garbage collection, including drain cleaning, public toilet maintenance, and active public participation.

The officials briefed the chief minister on the status and expansion plans of waste-to-energy plants in various locations. Gupta directed the MCD to complete the expansion work at the Okhla and Tehkhand plants promptly while maintaining transparency and accountability.

In response to the issue of stray cattle in the city, Gupta instructed the civic body to launch a special campaign to address the problem. The review meeting also discussed the progress of biomining activities at major landfill sites.

Gupta reiterated her government’s commitment to eliminating garbage mountains and repurposing the land post waste disposal. She highlighted the use of modern technology, trained manpower, and clear accountability to achieve a clean, healthy, and organized capital.

Overall, Chief Minister Gupta’s decisive actions underscore the urgency of addressing waste management issues in Delhi.
