Delhi on High Alert as Tensions Escalate with Pakistan

Date:

NEW DELHI: Security has been increased across Delhi as tensions escalate with Pakistan. Additional forces, including paramilitary personnel, have been deployed at key installations in the national capital.

The heightened security measures come in response to an armed conflict between India and Pakistan. The Pakistani military attempted to target several locations including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. Fortunately, these attempts were thwarted, and a Pakistani air defense system was destroyed in Lahore.

Police sources have reported that special commissioners from all zones are conducting meetings with deputy commissioners from all 15 districts. DCPs are actively monitoring law and order in their respective areas, briefing officers like ACPs and SHOs. The Delhi Police is fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise.

Increased vigilance has been implemented at malls, markets, metro stations, hotels, residential colonies, airports, and other crowded places. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania stated that a thorough security inspection was conducted at the Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station. The station is equipped with 41 operational CCTV cameras and has 7 male and 2 female CISF personnel deployed in each shift to ensure round-the-clock security for commuters.

Bomb Disposal Squads have also been conducting anti-sabotage checks at various locations to further enhance security measures.

“The district’s Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team recently carried out anti-sabotage checks at malls, markets, hotels, and other key locations to enhance public safety across the district. This exercise significantly boosted vigilance and readiness against potential threats,” stated DCP (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary.

In response to the increased security measures, police checks in the city have been heightened, particularly at the bordering areas, where all vehicles entering Delhi are being thoroughly inspected.

DCP (Rohini) Amit Goel emphasized the intensified vehicle checking as a crucial part of anti-terror initiatives, aimed at enhancing public safety and vigilance. Additional security forces have been deployed at strategic locations such as New Delhi, central Delhi, the cantonment area, and the IGI Airport.

“Delhi is currently on high alert, with heightened security measures in place, especially at tourist destinations. We have engaged in discussions with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) to ensure community involvement in maintaining security. Security personnel at various locations have been briefed and sensitized to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and maintain close communication with local law enforcement. Surprise checkpoints have been set up in various districts for vehicle inspections,” stated another senior officer.

Furthermore, the officer mentioned that police are actively monitoring social media platforms for any potential security threats.

Mock drills have been conducted in various areas to simulate real-time emergency scenarios, involving the participation of local authorities, police, fire services, medical teams, civil defense volunteers, and disaster management units. These drills are essential in preparing and coordinating responses to potential security incidents effectively.
