New Delhi: Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, has formally written to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sharing the report of the three-member panel appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate allegations of cash discovery against Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court.

In addition to the panel’s report, the Chief Justice also included Justice Varma’s response in his communication to the President and Prime Minister.

“The Chief Justice of India, in accordance with the in-house procedure, has written to the President and Prime Minister of India, enclosing a copy of the three-member committee report dated May 3, along with the letter/response dated May 6 received from Justice Yashwant Varma,” the apex court stated in a release.

It is understood that the Chief Justice had previously sent the panel’s report to Justice Varma and requested his response, adhering to the principles of natural justice.

The three-member panel, consisting of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Justice G S Sandhawalia of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, and Justice Anu Sivaraman of the Karnataka High Court, submitted its report to the Chief Justice.

The panel meticulously analyzed evidence and took statements from over 50 individuals, including Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and the Chief of the Delhi Fire Service, who were among the first responders to the fire incident at Justice Varma’s residence in Lutyens Delhi around 11:35 pm on March 14.

At the time of the incident, Justice Varma was serving as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
