MCD Commissioner Inspects Building Collapse Site, Structural Survey Underway

Date:

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has initiated a structural survey of neighboring buildings following the collapse of a multi-storey residential building in the Shakti Vihar area of northeast Delhi in the early hours of Saturday. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 11 lives and left 11 others injured, as per an official statement.

MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar, accompanied by the deputy commissioner of the zone and other senior officials, visited the site to assess the situation.

The collapsed property, situated on a plot of approximately 60 square yards, comprised a ground floor and three additional storeys. Initial investigations revealed that the building’s structural design did not meet the necessary load-bearing requirements, as stated by the MCD.

The municipal body expressed concerns that other buildings in the vicinity might also be at risk of structural instability.

It has come to our attention that additional structures in the area may be compromised in terms of their structural integrity and load-bearing capacity. Consequently, the MCD will conduct a comprehensive survey of the area to identify such buildings and will take appropriate measures to secure them, the statement outlined.
