Delhi Building Collapse: Four Dead, 14 Rescued

NEW DELHI: Tragedy struck in Delhi’s Mustafabad area as a four-storey building collapsed early Saturday morning, resulting in the loss of four lives and the rescue of 14 individuals. Authorities have reported that approximately eight people remain trapped under the debris, heightening the urgency of the ongoing rescue operation.

Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the North East District, revealed that the incident occurred at 2.40 am. “Fourteen individuals were successfully rescued, but unfortunately, four of them did not survive. The building’s collapse has left many in a precarious situation, with 8-10 individuals still unaccounted for,” he stated.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Police swiftly responded to the scene, initiating a coordinated effort to save those trapped beneath the rubble. Rajendra Atwal, Divisional Fire Officer, recounted the harrowing scene upon arrival. “Upon receiving the distress call at 2:50 am, we discovered the entire building had crumbled, leaving people trapped underneath. NDRF and Delhi Fire Service personnel are tirelessly working to extricate the victims,” he explained.

This tragic incident follows a similar event on April 11, when one person lost their life and two others were injured due to a wall collapse near Madhu Vihar police station during a dust storm. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in the wake of these devastating occurrences.
