Two Criminals Injured, Arrested After Firing at Police in Northwest Delhi

NEW DELHI: Two criminals were apprehended after a shootout with police near the DDA Ground in northwest Delhi, according to an official report on Saturday.

The suspects, Vishal (also known as Badal) and Kanhaiya (also known as Amit), were intercepted last night near the DDA Ground, Nirankari Bhavan, based on intelligence indicating their movements.

When signaled to stop, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team in an attempt to escape. In response, the police team fired in self-defense, injuring Vishal in the leg. Both suspects were promptly arrested and taken for medical treatment, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Vishal was wanted in a murder-dacoity case registered at the Ashok Vihar Police Station, while Kanhaiya was linked to cases of armed robbery at the Badli Police Station and attempted murder at the Mukherjee Nagar Police Station.

Two illegal firearms and a stolen scooty were seized from the suspects, as confirmed by the DCP.

A case under relevant sections of the law has been filed at the Mukherjee Nagar Police Station, with further investigation currently in progress.
