Delhi: Israeli AI Technology Plays Key Role in Solving 80 Lakh Robbery Case

Date:

NEW DELHI: In a high-profile case of an 80 lakh robbery at Chandni Chowk in New Delhi, the Northern District Police successfully cracked the case in just 24 hours by analyzing footage from over 500 CCTV cameras.

The cutting-edge Israeli AI technology, Facial Recognition System (FRS), played a pivotal role in identifying the culprits, facilitating their swift apprehension. Two suspects, Sameer (19) and Mohammad Ali (21) from Daryaganj, were arrested thanks to the assistance of the Israeli FRS.

According to the police, Mohammad Ali was the mastermind behind the robbery, having tipped off the traders at Chandni Chowk. He was clearly identifiable in the CCTV footage, and the Israeli technology quickly confirmed his identity.

DCP North Raja Banthia disclosed that following the incident, the police meticulously reviewed footage from over 500 CCTV cameras along potential escape routes, leading them to the suspects’ residence in Daryaganj. The suspect had prior run-ins with the law and possessed intricate knowledge of financial transactions in the Mahajan area. Despite the suspects attempting to evade capture by changing locations, the police successfully apprehended them.

The robbery took place on the evening of March 17, with a viral video capturing the 80 lakh heist and gunfire. Three investigative teams were deployed to tackle the case from different perspectives. In one footage, a suspicious individual in a blue shirt and cap was observed tailing a victim, seemingly receiving signals from another individual outside Kucha Ghasi Ram and Haider Kuli. One team pursued the assailant towards Fatehpuri Masjid, while another tracked a suspect fleeing on a scooter towards Lal Kila. After a night of diligent work, a clear image of the suspect was obtained, and the Israeli FRS technology swiftly confirmed his identity. Mohammad Ali was apprehended first in Daryaganj, followed by his accomplice Sameer after interrogation.

During the investigation, the suspects disclosed that they had scoped out the area two days prior to the incident. They targeted the victim because he arrived empty-handed but left with a bag. Seizing the opportunity, they proceeded with the robbery. Fortunately, 79.50 lakh rupees out of the 80 lakh rupees stolen have been retrieved, along with the firearm utilized in the crime.
