CAIT Writes to Rahul Gandhi Over Alleged Trade Disruption During Delhi Rallies

Date:

New Delhi: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) wrote to Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on November 5, alleging that rallies and protests had disrupted business in Delhi during the festive season. The letter singled out the November 1 rally and questioned the Congress and its allies over their support for other demonstrations.

CAIT national president B C Bhartia, who signed the letter, said road blockades and repeated demonstrations had hurt traders, street vendors, transport workers and daily wage earners. He asked who would compensate traders and small businesses for the losses the association said they had suffered.

Bhartia said the association respected the right to peaceful protest and asked political parties to use designated venues without blocking markets or disrupting public movement. The letter sought a response from Gandhi.
