New Delhi: The Delhi government notified its 2026 policy for the rehabilitation and relocation of jhuggi-jhopri settlements on November 4. The Delhi Gazette sets the price of alternative housing for eligible households at ₹1.5 lakh, subject to later revisions, plus applicable operation and maintenance charges.
The policy gives preference to housing at the existing site or within three kilometres. The notification does not specify the flat ₹50,000 maintenance amount mentioned in the post below.

Under the policy, both the settlement and the dwelling must have existed before January 1, 2025. Applicants must meet voter-list and survey requirements, provide an approved document issued before the cutoff and satisfy other eligibility conditions. A household that already owns a permanent house anywhere in India is ineligible.
The notification cites about 675 jhuggi-jhopri settlements in Delhi. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board will coordinate rehabilitation on land belonging to the Delhi government, its agencies and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The Delhi Development Authority will coordinate projects on DDA and central government land.
