Gang of Thieves Hold Elderly Couple Hostage, Loot Lakhs in Delhi Home

Date:

NEW DELHI: In the heart of Ashok Vihar, a retired DU professor fell victim to a gang of criminals who turned his home into a den of terror and looted him of lakhs of rupees.

The incident unfolded in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area, where an elderly couple was held captive and robbed in their own home. Reports suggest that the retired professor from Delhi University was robbed of millions of rupees in his own house.

During the ordeal, the criminals held the professor, his wife, and their domestic helper at gunpoint, making off with around 25 lakh worth of jewelry and approximately 1.5 lakh rupees in cash. The culprits fled the scene with a car parked in the driveway.

Upon receiving the information, senior police officers along with local Ashok Vihar police station personnel rushed to the scene. The police are currently questioning the domestic helper and the affected couple. The retired professor and his wife reside in Ashok Vihar J Block. The professor recounted that around 10 am, the domestic helper was working when the main gate was left open. It was at that moment that four criminals barged into their home, threatening them with guns and tying them up. The victims were then locked in separate rooms while the criminals ransacked the house for nearly half an hour. They stole two kilograms of silver, 250 grams of silver coins, and mobile phones before fleeing in their car.

The couple managed to free themselves after the criminals left and immediately contacted their neighbors, who then informed the police. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and are examining the CCTV cameras around the crime scene.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Bhisham Singh revealed that the car was stolen to facilitate a quick getaway and was later abandoned to evade police detection. The crime scene was examined by the forensic team, collecting fingerprints and other evidence. The stolen vehicle was later recovered near Vazirabad JJ Colony.
