New Delhi: On Monday, Delhi’s Education Minister, Ashish Sood, conducted a comprehensive review of educational and infrastructural projects in the Narela Assembly constituency. His visit included an assessment of proposed sites for a new government school in Bankner village and a college along the Singhu Border road.
Minister Sood began his tour at the Narela Fire Station, which has been non-operational for several years. He urged fire department officials to expedite the completion of outstanding construction work, ensure the premises are thoroughly cleaned, and deploy both a large and a small fire engine as soon as possible.
Following his inspection of the fire station, Sood proceeded to the designated site for the government school in Bankner village. During this visit, local residents expressed their concerns regarding the location, which is situated approximately four kilometers from Swatantra Nagar. They highlighted issues such as inadequate access roads and the tendency for the area to become waterlogged during the monsoon season. Residents also pointed out that the land, owned by the Gram Sabha, presents safety challenges for schoolchildren, particularly for girls.

In response to these concerns, Minister Sood questioned the rationale behind the initial site allocation, suggesting it was made without adequate consideration of the community’s needs. He instructed the Director of Education to identify a more suitable location nearby and requested a detailed report on the situation within a week. Sood assured the villagers that a school would be established at an appropriate site before the end of the government’s term.
Additionally, the minister reviewed land designated for the expansion of Swami Shraddhanand College. He encouraged the college principal to formally communicate with the Directorate of Education to expedite action on pending issues, including the removal of trees and the construction of a boundary wall.
Through these initiatives, Minister Sood aims to enhance educational infrastructure and ensure the safety and accessibility of educational facilities for the residents of Narela.
Sood further proposed the establishment of a women’s college on the same parcel of land.
The inspection culminated in a visit to the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, where the minister instructed officials to identify and address any infrastructural deficiencies. This initiative aims to ensure that the facility can be fully utilized to its maximum potential, as stated in the official announcement.
