In the first edition of Diplomatic Cup, the Ministry of External Affairs defeated the US Embassy by 8 wickets at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Ministry displayed a stellar performance throughout the tournament organised by the host MEA as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
US Embassy won the toss and elected to bat first on the batting-friendly track of the lush green ground of the stadium. But the decision did not favour them much. They lost their early wickets and half of the team returned to the dugout when the total on the scoreboard was a little close to 50 that mounted pressure on the US Embassy which had performed otherwise well in the matches played earlier.
On the other hand, the MEA did not let them go loose with big shots and restricted them to 99 runs in stipulated 20 overs. Chasing the meagre total, MEA easily finished the match in the 17th over. Akash Chahar and Basist were the main scorers for the Ministry, Chahar was adjudged man of the match and Raju from the American Embassy was declared man of the series and Gaurav took 4 wickets for the US Embassy.
Present on the occasion were additional secretary MEA Arun Chaterjee, joint secretary JP Singh, IMWA president Rajiv Nishana, Vijay Sharma , Editor Veer Arjun and several other dignitaries from various embassies.
The tourney was convened and coordinated by Anup Kalia.
