No Extra Burden on Citizens: MCD Assures Balanced Budget for 2026–27

Date:

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) convened an important meeting of its Standing Committee as part of the ongoing process to finalise the Revised Budget Estimates for the financial year 2025–26 and the Budget Estimates for 2026–27.

During the meeting, Standing Committee members put forward a wide range of suggestions aimed at strengthening the city’s sanitation system, improving basic civic amenities, accelerating infrastructure development, and expanding health and education services. Environmental protection and strict financial discipline also emerged as key themes during the deliberations.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on enhancing MCD’s revenue streams, with members stressing the need for more efficient and optimum utilisation of existing municipal assets such as schools, community halls, and public parks, rather than imposing additional financial burdens on citizens.

Chairing the meeting, Satya Sharma, who is also the Chairperson of the Standing Committee, assured members that all constructive suggestions would be carefully examined and incorporated into the final budget document.

She described the municipal budget as a critical policy instrument for strengthening civic services and addressing the city’s future needs. Emphasising inclusivity, Sharma said the budget-making process is participatory in nature and that inputs from both ruling and opposition members would be consolidated to ensure a balanced, practical, and people-oriented budget.

“The Corporation’s objective is to maximise public welfare through the effective use of limited financial resources,” Sharma said, adding that while adequate provisions would be made for development works, special care would be taken to ensure that no additional burden is placed on the common citizen.

The discussions are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the MCD’s financial roadmap for the coming year, at a time when Delhi’s civic infrastructure and service delivery remain under close public scrutiny.
