New Delhi: Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was officially sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on Wednesday. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu during a brief ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Justice Gavai succeeds Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who retired on Tuesday upon reaching the age of 65.
Having been elevated to the Supreme Court on May 24, 2019, Justice Gavai will serve as Chief Justice for a tenure of over six months, concluding his term on November 23.
During the ceremony, Justice Gavai took the oath of affirmation in Hindi, marking a significant moment in his judicial career.
