Delhi MCD| Budget Meeting Descends into Chaos as Councilors Clash

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s meeting on Wednesday was once again disrupted, hindering discussions on the budget estimates for 2024-25 and 2025-26. Chaos erupted in the hall, with individuals climbing on tables, tearing papers, and causing a scene that led to a temporary halt in the proceedings for 10 minutes. As of the time of this publication, the meeting had not yet commenced.

The chaos continued when the meeting initially started, with Congress councilors and BJP councilors clashing and shouting slogans forcefully. Some even climbed onto the mayor’s desk, further disrupting the proceedings. Sources indicated significant opposition to the budget proposal, with councilors tearing it apart.

This chaotic scene has become a common occurrence whenever the house convenes, despite ongoing meetings for over two years. During this particular budget session, Congress councilors were at the forefront of causing chaos, protesting vehemently, especially during their turn to present their proposal. Banners were unfurled, and a ruckus ensued. The situation escalated when BJP councilors joined in, attempting to disrupt the session leaders’ agenda. Despite the noise, some proposals were passed, but the chaos persisted for an extended period.

The scene in the assembly hall is currently in a state of chaos, with all the councilors in attendance. Near the well, a tumultuous scene is unfolding as councilors protest, demonstrate, and voice their grievances both verbally and through the microphone. They are also seen carrying Congress flags and banners related to the Constitution, demanding an end to the violation of its principles.

Today, the Congress councilors have taken center stage at the well, causing a significant disturbance. The situation has escalated rapidly, leading to a complete disruption of the proceedings. Both Congress and BJP councilors have joined in the chaos, with even the mayor and other members being forced to vacate the area.

The unrest in the assembly hall is palpable, with tensions running high as the commotion continues to unfold.
