New Delhi: BJP and Aam Aadmi Party councillors clashed in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House during its October 22 meeting, with footage showing a crowded confrontation near the dais amid shouting and slogan-raising.
The video shows councillors confronting one another as others gather around them. Mayor Pravesh Wahi, in his statement after Thursday’s meeting, accused AAP councillors of disrupting a scheduled discussion on sanitation and air pollution and said the matter had been referred to the corporation’s disciplinary committee.
Mayor seeks disciplinary action over House disruption
Wahi alleged that AAP councillors damaged government property and made an objectionable remark about a Congress councillor. He said action should be taken under the applicable rules. These are the mayor’s allegations; the footage alone does not establish responsibility for starting the confrontation or substantiate each allegation.
According to the mayor, a half-hour discussion on air pollution and sanitation had been scheduled, along with decisions on cleanliness arrangements for the festive season. He alleged that the disruption prevented a detailed discussion of these issues.
Sanitation workers and neighbourhood funds announced
After the meeting, Wahi announced that MCD would engage 2,500 sanitation workers for three months to improve festive-season cleanliness. He also said each councillor’s area would receive ₹25 lakh for development works.
The mayor maintained that the corporation had passed public-interest proposals despite the disruption. The staffing and funding announcements were covered in our earlier report on the October 22 MCD House meeting.
The material available for this report does not include AAP’s response to the mayor’s allegations.
