New Delhi: In a significant security breach, a man brought to Saket Court for a hearing on Thursday was brutally attacked inside the court’s lock-up by two fellow inmates, according to police reports.
The assailants reportedly kicked the victim repeatedly and slammed his head against the wall. The victim, identified as Aman (24), who was facing trial for attempted murder, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police sources have indicated that a specialized team has been formed to investigate the incident, particularly focusing on the delayed response of security personnel present in the lock-up at the time of the attack.

Multiple undertrial prisoners were in the lock-up when Aman was allegedly assaulted by Jitender, also known as Jitte, and Jaidev, referred to as Baccha. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan confirmed in a statement, “Aman was brought to Saket Court for a hearing when the incident occurred in Kharja No. 5 of the lock-up.”
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was rooted in a prior dispute. In 2024, Aman allegedly attacked Jitender and his brother with a knife, indicating that their rivalry had persisted and intensified during their time in custody.
Aman, a resident of Govindpuri, sustained severe injuries during the assault and was immediately taken for medical evaluation, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a murder case is being registered as further investigations continue.
The police confirmed that the individuals involved—Aman, Jitender, and Jaidev—were being held in Tihar Jail Number 8.
