Delhi Police Busts Extortion Racket Using Lawrence Bishnoi’s Name, Three Held from Punjab

Date:

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, East Delhi Police has busted an extortion racket operating in the name of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, arresting three accused from Punjab. The accused had demanded ₹25 lakh extortion money from the director of Gil Jewar Mahal, Kilokri Road, in East Delhi, through WhatsApp calls and messages.

DCP Abhishek Dania said this was a significant success for Delhi Police, as the accused tried to create panic in the capital by invoking Bishnoi’s name, but their plan was foiled due to swift police action.

How the Racket Worked

On August 2025, around 5:15 pm, police received a PCR call from the jeweler’s director after receiving threatening calls and messages demanding ₹25 lakh. The victim also noticed a suspicious vehicle following him for days.

The extortion threat originated from Punjab, cleverly camouflaged to appear as if made from abroad. The technical surveillance and CCTV analysis helped police identify the first suspect, Rohit Kohler (23), from Tarn Taran district, Punjab.

Upon interrogation, Rohit revealed that he was in contact with Arshdeep alias Karan (21), a resident of Gurdaspur, through Instagram, who had provided him the contact details for the extortion attempt. Both were arrested in Punjab.

The Mastermind and Syndicate

Further investigation revealed that the extortion attempts were part of a well-organised syndicate targeting jewelers and businessmen. Two more names surfaced — Gurjinder Singh alias Gagan and Sheru, both from Gurdaspur.

  • Sheru is reported to have fled abroad three years ago and is currently in a Gulf country.
  • Gagan, who had camouflaged his calls to appear as if made from Australia, was later tracked in Punjab and arrested.

After 10 days of combing operations across Punjab and Haryana, police arrested mastermind Gurjit Singh alias Gagan (21), busting the syndicate.

Bishnoi Gang Link Under Probe

According to police, the extortion messages directly mentioned the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though the verification of direct gang involvement is still under investigation. DCP Dania confirmed that further inquiry is ongoing and another mastermind based abroad is yet to be tracked.
