New Delhi: In yet another case of overspeeding accident in Delhi, tragedy struck late last night when a speeding BMW car rammed a motorcycle near Dhaula Kuan flyover. The accident claimed the life of Finance Ministry Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh, while his wife Sandeep Kaur remains in critical condition.

According to police, the couple was returning home from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when a luxury BMW, allegedly driven by a woman identified as Gagandeep, crashed into their bike from behind. The impact was so severe that both victims were thrown several feet away. Passersby immediately rushed them to hospital, but Navjot Singh succumbed to injuries while his wife continues to fight for her life.

Eyewitness Account

Eyewitnesses told police that the BMW was moving at over 120 kmph when it hit the bike. The collision was so forceful that even the BMW’s airbags deployed, and the car itself was left mangled. The woman driver and her husband, who were inside the car, reportedly put the injured couple into a taxi and drove them to a North Delhi hospital, 19 km away, instead of nearby facilities like AIIMS or Safdarjung.

This decision has raised serious questions from the victim’s family, who asked why the injured were not taken to the nearest hospitals for immediate treatment.

Investigation Update

Police have seized the BMW and registered an FIR under multiple sections. The driver, Gagandeep, is currently admitted to the hospital and her statement is yet to be recorded. Her husband has given a preliminary account of the accident.

The wrecked car, with smashed windows and deployed airbags, is now under forensic examination. Investigators confirmed that the BMW also collided with a bus after hitting the bike, further highlighting the intensity of the crash.

Family’s Anguish

Relatives of Navjot Singh expressed deep anguish, demanding accountability for the delay in providing immediate medical help. “Hospitals like AIIMS and Safdarjung are just minutes away from the crash site. Why were they taken 19 kilometers away?” a family member questioned.

Police are probing whether negligence in post-crash medical assistance played a role in the tragic outcome.
