GST return amendments: CBIC seeks public feedback by November 30

Date:

New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has invited public suggestions until November 30 on a proposed alternative mechanism for amending tax liabilities and input tax credit in GST returns.

The proposal follows a recommendation by the GST Council at its 57th meeting on October 8. According to CBIC and the MyGov consultation page, the mechanism is intended to minimise mismatches in returns and reduce related notices and intimations.

How to participate in the consultation

The consultation runs from November 1 to November 30. Taxpayers, tax practitioners, industry associations and other stakeholders can read the proposal and submit comments through the official MyGov consultation page. It provides a note covering proposed changes to the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017, and GST forms.

A user may submit suggestions for more than one area. However, once a suggestion for an area has been submitted, it cannot be edited, the portal states.

Participation is voluntary. The competent authority may consider submissions, but sending feedback does not guarantee its acceptance or inclusion in a policy decision. Participants are asked to provide accurate information, keep comments relevant and avoid unnecessary personal or sensitive details.
