New Delhi: Nearly 4,000 MCD public-health multi-tasking staff (MTS), whose work includes preventing mosquito-borne disease, are set to benefit from an equal-pay-for-equal-work decision, with a Level-1 pay-matrix minimum of ₹18,000 plus dearness allowance, according to Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta transferred increased salaries directly into employees’ bank accounts at a programme at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium in Civic Centre on Friday. The event marked the decision to grant equal pay for equal work to the corporation’s public-health MTS employees.
Long service in disease prevention
Gupta described the decision as recognition of the employees’ service and commitment. Referring to workers appointed during Delhi’s 1996 dengue outbreak, she said they had spent nearly three decades going door to door to help protect residents’ health.
Khirwar separately said domestic breeding checker (DBC) posts had been created in 1997 to tackle dengue and that these workers later received the MTS public-health designation. He said the revised pay arrangement would give employees fresh motivation to discharge their duties.
Gupta asked employees to deal with residents sensitively and with a spirit of public service. She said the government would support measures addressing their welfare and needs.
Mayor announces sanitation recruitment
Mayor Pravesh Wahi also said 2,500 new sanitation workers were being appointed to strengthen cleanliness arrangements. He said MCD was working with the Delhi government to implement development initiatives.
The salary decision and the sanitation recruitment announcement concern separate categories of municipal workers.
