Delhi: A YouTuber accused of making racist remarks against a person of Tripura origin has been arrested by North district police, following action on a video he shared on social media.

Police alleged that the accused made a racist comment targeting the Tripura-origin person in a social-media post.

The accused had previously been involved in other cases, including assault and molestation, police said. The announcement did not identify him by name or specify the legal provisions invoked in the present case.

Kiren Rijiju had called for action

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had condemned the conduct in an October 21 post, saying there had been a delay in lodging the official complaint.

He said Delhi Police and Tripura Police would act against the man and criticised people who tolerate such behaviour, saying it contributes to the spread of hatred.
