New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has added 12 truck-mounted multipurpose vehicles equipped with anti-smog guns, water sprinklers and jetting systems to its dust-control and cleaning fleet. Each vehicle carries a 7,000-litre water tank and costs ₹35.06 lakh, according to the corporation.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi flagged off the vehicles from the MCD headquarters at Dr. S.P.M. Civic Centre on October 13. He said the machines would strengthen efforts to suppress airborne dust while supporting road washing, drain cleaning and public-toilet maintenance.
Dust suppression and civic cleaning
The vehicles are intended to tackle dust particles and particulate matter generated by roads, construction activities and other sources, MCD said. Their anti-smog guns and sprinklers will be used for dust suppression and water spraying.
The jetting systems can clear blockages in small covered drains and culverts. Washing guns are also provided for cleaning public toilets, general washing and other maintenance work, allowing the same vehicles to perform several civic functions.
Wahi said the additional equipment would support the corporation’s ongoing pollution-control and sanitation work and help provide cleaner roads and better civic amenities.
Maintenance and quality checks
MCD said the vehicles would operate under a comprehensive operation and maintenance model, covering regular upkeep and optimum utilisation. Their estimated useful life is 15 years.
Third-party inspection and quality checks through IIT Delhi have been provided for to ensure the quality of the machinery, the corporation said.
