New Delhi: Delhi Police have apprehended two more men and recovered another 14.774 kg of ganja in a case being investigated by Narela Industrial Area police station, taking the total seizure to 25.444 kg, according to the Outer North District police.
Shah Jamal, alias Fakira, 26, and Kapil, 24, both residents of Punarwas Colony in Narela, were intercepted near the canal at JJ Colony in Bawana on September 27 while travelling in a Wagon-R car, police said.
The operation followed the arrest of Naval Kishor, 37, a resident of Sector A/6 in Narela, on September 25. Police said 10.670 kg of ganja was recovered from him after officers acted on specific information. FIR number 543/26 was registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Police said their questioning of Naval Kishor indicated that he had procured ganja from Shah Jamal on earlier occasions. A team was subsequently deployed near the Bawana canal on the basis of that information and local inputs.
According to police, a search after the two men were intercepted yielded 14.774 kg of ganja. The contraband and the Wagon-R were seized. Police also listed a motorcycle allegedly used by Naval Kishor among the recoveries in the case.
The operation was supervised by ACP Narela Rakesh Kumar. The team was led by Narela Industrial Area SHO Inspector Manoj Kumar and included ASI Balraj, head constables Aashish and Kalicharan, and constables Vikram and Ashwani.
Investigators are seeking to trace the sources of procurement and the onward supply network, and identify any other people involved in distribution. Police said further legal action would depend on the findings of the investigation.
