New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has regularised 501 sanitation workers who had been serving the civic body for years, according to a statement issued by the corporation.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi welcomed the decision and congratulated the workers. He said the latest regularisation followed a recent decision to regularise another 296 sanitation workers.
Wahi said the move would provide greater employment stability and a foundation for social security for the workers and their families, while recognising their years of service.
Recognition for years of service
Describing sanitation workers as the backbone of Delhi’s cleanliness system, the mayor said they worked in difficult conditions every day and played an important role in keeping the capital clean.
He said recognising their contribution and protecting their interests were responsibilities of the MCD. Regularisation, he added, was more than an administrative decision and acknowledged the workers’ labour and service.
Wahi said the corporation was working for employee welfare and the protection of their rights under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
He said matters concerning workers’ interests were being taken up with sensitivity and priority, and ensuring that they received the benefits of their rights remained among the corporation’s priorities.
