MCD Clears Encroachments at Zamrudpur Heritage Sites, Removes Over 10 Truckloads of Debris

Date:

Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has carried out an anti-encroachment operation at heritage monument sites in Zamrudpur village in the South Zone, deploying more than 60 personnel and removing over 10 truckloads of debris.

According to an MCD press release, the operation was undertaken in connection with the matter of Rajeev Suri versus ASI and Others, which is pending before the Supreme Court.

A joint team comprising officials from different MCD departments conducted the operation with the support of an outside police force and local police.

MCD said walls and unauthorised structures being used as godowns and for keeping cattle were demolished. Three iron gates obstructing access to the heritage building were also removed.

Civic personnel cleared construction and demolition waste and other refuse from the site. More than 10 truckloads of debris were removed, while the remaining material will be cleared over the next few days, the corporation said.

MCD said the operation was necessary to free government land from encroachment, protect heritage sites from unauthorised construction and ensure safe access for the local community. It added that action against encroachments at heritage sites would continue.
