New Delhi, June 24: The accused in the alleged kidnapping, rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Delhi’s Mehrauli area was injured in a police encounter while allegedly attempting to escape, Delhi Police officials said.
The accused, identified as Bablu, a cab driver by profession, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the operation. A video purportedly recorded after the encounter has since gone viral on social media, showing the accused lying on a road and pleading for mercy.
According to police, Bablu is the prime accused in the sensational Mehrauli case involving the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a minor girl. During efforts to apprehend and interrogate him, he allegedly attempted to flee, following which police opened fire, injuring him in the leg.
The viral video has drawn significant public attention, with many social media users contrasting the accused’s pleas for mercy with the brutal allegations against him.
Delhi Police said the encounter was carried out in accordance with legal procedures after the accused attempted to escape custody. He was subsequently taken into custody and provided medical treatment.
The case has triggered widespread outrage across the national capital, with demands for strict action against those involved in crimes against children.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to taking firm action in cases involving crimes against women and children, stating that offenders involved in heinous crimes would be dealt with strictly under the law.
