Date:

New Delhi, May 31: A wanted criminal allegedly associated with the Himanshu Bhau gang was arrested following a brief encounter with the Outer Delhi Police Special Staff in the Bakkarwala area of Outer Delhi.

The accused, identified as Ashish Bakkarwala, son of notorious auto-lifter Manoj Bakkarwala, was apprehended after an exchange of fire between the police and the suspect. Police said Ashish was wanted in four criminal cases and has more than eight cases registered against him.

According to Delhi Police, the Outer District Special Staff received specific intelligence on Saturday night that Ashish Bakkarwala was heading towards his native village in Bakkarwala. Acting on the information, a police team laid a trap in the area to intercept him.

As the suspect approached the spot, police personnel asked him to surrender. However, he allegedly opened fire on the police team in an attempt to escape.

Police retaliated, and two rounds were fired during the encounter. Following the brief exchange of fire, Ashish Bakkarwala was overpowered and taken into custody.

Investigators said the accused was actively working with the Himanshu Bhau gang and had been evading arrest in multiple criminal cases.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain his role in other criminal activities and his links with organised crime networks operating in Delhi and neighbouring states.
