Delhi Crime Branch Arrests 1995 Murder Convict Absconding on Parole, Living Under Fake Identity

Date:

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 1995 murder convict who had been absconding after jumping parole, officials said on Saturday.

According to DCP Crime Branch Sanjeev Yadav, the accused, identified as Salim Khan, was wanted in connection with a 1995 murder case and the kidnapping for ransom of a 13-year-old child. He had been convicted by a court and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Police said that after being released on parole, Salim Khan failed to return to jail and had been on the run for several years. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Crime Branch received information that he was hiding in the Loni area on the outskirts of Delhi.

A dedicated team from the Anti-Robbery and Snatching Cell (ARSC) conducted a targeted raid in Loni, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had been living in the area under a fake identity as “Salim Vastik”, deliberately concealing his real name and past to evade arrest.

Following his arrest, the Crime Branch has informed the local police authorities, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused.

Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain how he managed to evade law enforcement for such a long period and whether anyone assisted him during his absconding years.
