Fake Online Products Racket Busted in Tumakuru; Delhi-Based Accused Arrested

Date:

Tumakuru (Karnataka): Online shoppers have been urged to stay cautious after Tumakuru police busted a major racket involving the sale of fake products through e-commerce platforms.

The accused, identified as Rajeev Khanna from New Delhi, has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit products across India. Police said the accused had been running an online trading operation for the past two years along with his two sons, who are currently absconding.

According to investigators, the gang was selling fake health and cosmetic products such as slimming powders, tablets, hair oils, and protein supplements on platforms like Flipkart. In several cases, products advertised as “slimming powder” or “protein supplements” were found to contain ordinary wheat flour, cleverly packaged to resemble branded items.

The fraud came to light after a complaint was filed in August 2025 by a company alleging heavy losses due to copyright infringement. Acting on the complaint, a police team led by the Shira DySP traced the operation to Delhi.

Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok said that a raid was conducted at a warehouse in Shalimar Market, Delhi, where counterfeit goods were seized. The accused was arrested and produced before a Rohini court before being brought to Tumakuru on a transit warrant for further investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that all products sold by the accused were fake. Police are also probing the possible involvement of employees from major e-commerce platforms in facilitating the racket.

Further investigation is underway to track the wider network and nab other accused involved in the scam.
