New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, Kalkaji Police have arrested a 26-year-old domestic help for allegedly stealing ancestral gold and silver jewellery along with ₹2,24,500 in cash from her employer’s residence in South Delhi. A substantial portion of the stolen property has been recovered.
The case came to light when a resident of DD-8, Kalkaji, discovered in October 2025 that her late mother’s ancestral gold ornaments, ₹70,000 in cash, expensive clothes and other valuables were missing from a locker inside a almirah in her bedroom. Suspicion fell on the full-time domestic help, Shivani, who had been working at the house since January 14, 2025, after the complainant noticed an unexplained change in her lifestyle.
Based on the complaint, FIR No. 130/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at PS Kalkaji on February 10, 2026, and an investigation was initiated.
During the probe, Woman Sub-Inspector Khushboo, the Investigating Officer, conducted sustained and scientific interrogation of the suspect. Shivani eventually confessed to committing the theft in phases.
According to police, she had easy access to the bedroom, almirah, and locker keys due to the trust reposed in her by the family. She allegedly misused this access to gradually steal gold jewellery, silver items, cash, and other valuables without raising suspicion.
On her disclosure, police arrested her and successfully recovered most of the stolen property. She has been produced before the court and remanded to one-day police custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the remaining stolen items.
Recovery Details – Gold Jewellery: One pair of gold bangles, Two gold chains, Five gold rings, Two pairs of gold earrings. Silver Articles: 42 silver coins, 04 silver biscuits, 03 pairs of silver anklets, One silver tea-pot set (5 pieces), 06 silver bowls (various sizes), 02 silver plates, 07 silver spoons. The accused, Shivani (26), wife of Raju, is a resident of Tughlakabad Village, New Delhi. She lives with her unemployed husband and five-year-old daughter. Police stated that she has no prior criminal record.
During interrogation, she reportedly claimed that she used part of the stolen cash for household expenses and personal needs due to financial distress caused by her husband’s unemployment.
Police officials stated that further investigation is in progress to recover any remaining property and to complete legal formalities in the case.
