New Delhi: Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh on Wednesday appealed to all eligible property owners within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) limits to avail the benefits of the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025–26 — SUMPATTIKAR NIPTAAN YOJANA (SUNIYO), calling it a “golden opportunity” to settle long-pending dues without penalties.
Under the SUNIYO scheme, taxpayers are eligible for a complete waiver of property tax arrears, interest and penalties for periods prior to FY 2020–21, provided they pay the principal property tax for the current financial year 2025–26 and the previous five years (FY 2020–21 to 2024–25) without interest or penalty. The scheme has now been extended till January 31, 2026, with a 5% late fee.
“We urge all property owners and occupiers to make full use of this opportunity and clear their outstanding property tax dues without attracting any further interest or penalties,” the Mayor said.
Strong Public Response
Highlighting the strong response to the scheme, the Mayor said that 1,66,587 taxpayers have already benefited under SUNIYO, contributing ₹803.61 crore in property tax collections as of December 31, 2025.
Of this amount, ₹188.28 crore was collected from 1,20,157 residential properties, while ₹615.32 crore came from 46,430 non-residential properties, indicating strong compliance across sectors.
Significantly, 90,139 first-time taxpayers joined the tax net under the SUNIYO scheme, contributing ₹312.45 crore, marking a major expansion of Delhi’s tax base.
Record Growth in Revenue
The Mayor further noted that total property tax collection for the current financial year (including SUNIYO) stood at ₹2,642.80 crore from 12,42,875 taxpayers as of December 31, 2025. This represents a 42.1% increase in revenue and a 20.52% rise in the number of taxpayers compared to the corresponding period last year.
By contrast, the entire FY 2024–25 saw a total collection of ₹2,132.29 crore from 11,33,161 taxpayers, which is significantly lower than the current year’s collection achieved within nine months.
Reiterating his appeal, the Mayor urged all remaining eligible taxpayers to utilise the extended SUNIYO deadline and settle their dues in a timely manner, strengthening civic finances while avoiding legal or financial penalties.
