DMRC Proposes New 11-km Metro Corridor from Dwarka Yashobhoomi to Gurugram IFFCO Chowk, Promises Faster Travel and Relief from Traffic Jams

Date:

New Delhi: In a major development for lakhs of daily commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed a new 11-km metro corridor from Dwarka Yashobhoomi to Gurugram’s IFFCO Chowk. The project, once approved, is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion between Delhi and Gurugram.

According to the proposal submitted to the Haryana government, the corridor will cover Yashobhoomi–Bharatlal–Bijwasan–Carterpuri–Sector 23–Tau Devi Lal Park–IFFCO Chowk, creating a direct link between Dwarka and Gurugram.

The most crucial feature will be an interchange at Sector 23, offering connectivity with the proposed Old Gurugram Metro project. This will enable commuters to switch between two metro networks at one station, enhancing regional integration.

The corridor will also improve access to major hubs such as Udyog Vihar, Cyber City, Hero Honda Chowk, and Subhash Chowk, while strengthening links with the Delhi Airport Express Line and Blue Line. Officials say this will help decongest roads and provide a smoother journey for lakhs of passengers daily.

However, challenges remain. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is still pending approval, and issues such as land acquisition, construction-related disruptions, environmental clearances, and project cost-sharing will need to be resolved. A high-level meeting chaired by the Haryana Chief Secretary is expected to deliberate on these aspects.

If all approvals come through, construction on the new corridor could begin within the next few years, further boosting the Delhi-NCR metro network and transforming connectivity for Delhi-Gurugram commuters.
