Bomb Threat Email Disrupts Delhi High Court Proceedings; Security Tightened After Suspicious Package Alert

Date:

New Delhi: Panic gripped the Delhi High Court on Friday after an email warning of bombs being planted inside the court premises was received. The threat message, written in both Hindi and English, claimed that explosives had been placed in the court complex with alleged references to Pakistan and Tamil Nadu links.

The email, circulated around 11 a.m., forced authorities to halt proceedings and vacate parts of the High Court as a precaution. The Delhi Police Special Cell, crime branch, and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot, conducting intensive checking of courtrooms, corridors, and parking areas.

Sources said the email specifically mentioned three bombs inside a judge’s chamber and ordered evacuation by 2 p.m. Although no explosives were found till late afternoon, the message triggered a massive security drill. Officials are also tracing the IP address and investigating the motive behind the mail.

“Given the sensitivity of the matter, security inside and outside the court has been increased, and all suspicious spots are being checked thoroughly,” a Delhi Police officer confirmed.

This incident comes almost 14 years after the 2011 Delhi High Court blast, making the threat particularly serious. The Bar Association later indicated that the email appeared to be a hoax, but investigators are treating it as a potential security breach.

Meanwhile, additional security has been deployed in the Supreme Court and other courts across the capital, where directions have also been issued to restrict video recording and reel-making inside premises.
