New Delhi: In a major breakthrough for Delhi Police, a shooter linked to gangster Rohit Godara was arrested after an encounter in Jahangirpuri late Monday night. The accused, identified as Ankit, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire.
According to the Delhi Police Special Cell (Northern Range), Ankit had been ordered by gangster Rohit Godara—currently hiding abroad—to open fire on a local businessman as part of an extortion plot. Acting on a tip-off about his movement in the Jahangirpuri area, the Special Cell laid a trap and intercepted him around midnight.
“When signaled to stop, the accused opened fire on the police team in an attempt to escape. In retaliatory firing, he was shot in the leg and overpowered,” officials said.
Police sources confirmed that Ankit was meeting an associate before executing the planned attack. His interrogation is expected to reveal more details about Godara’s extortion network in Delhi.
The encounter highlights the increasing efforts of the Delhi Police against organized crime, extortion rackets, and gang wars in the city. Further investigation is underway to trace other associates linked to the gangster’s syndicate.
