Date:

New Delhi: A notorious criminal identified as Khemchand (35), wanted in more than a dozen criminal cases, was arrested by the Delhi Police following a brief encounter in east Delhi’s Ghazipur paper market area on Tuesday.

According to senior officials, Khemchand, a resident of Seelampur in northeast Delhi, had been absconding for a long time and was on the police radar for his involvement in multiple serious offences.

Acting on a credible tip-off, police laid a trap in the Ghazipur area and asked the accused to surrender. However, he opened fire on the police team, triggering retaliatory firing, during which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg, officers said.

Khemchand was immediately apprehended and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine his involvement in other unsolved criminal cases.
