Power Minister Ashish Sood Orders Robust Infrastructure and Solar Energy Adoption to Meet Delhi’s Soaring Demand

Date:

New Delhi: Responding to Delhi’s escalating electricity demand, Power Minister Ashish Sood has mandated power companies to bolster their infrastructure and aggressively promote solar energy adoption, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for all residents.

During a high-level review meeting with Power Department officials and representatives from Delhi’s three power distribution companies (DISCOMs), Sood emphasized the crucial need for robust infrastructure upgrades to handle the increasing load.

He specifically directed companies to prepare for anticipated extreme weather conditions, ensuring rapid response mechanisms are in place to minimize power outages resulting from natural events like strong winds, heavy rainfall, and falling trees.

“Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, we are unwavering in our commitment to providing uninterrupted and reliable power to every citizen of Delhi,” stated Shri Sood.

“We are taking concrete steps to achieve this goal, and any negligence in ensuring a consistent power supply will not be tolerated.” The Minister urged DISCOMs to proactively replace outdated power grids, install new cables, and embrace innovative technologies for power generation and distribution.

He emphasized the importance of implementing systems capable of instantaneously detecting faults, allowing for swift intervention by dedicated response teams. Further, Shri Sood directed companies to leverage data analysis for enhanced efficiency in power management.

A key focus of the meeting was the acceleration of solar energy adoption throughout Delhi. Acknowledging the city’s growing energy needs, Shri Sood passionately advocated for leveraging solar power.

He called upon DISCOMs and the Power Department to actively encourage all electricity consumers to install solar panels, particularly under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

He also highlighted the urgency of providing solar-powered electricity solutions to areas where traditional electricity meters cannot be installed.

Finally, Sood instructed the companies to explore replicating the successful battery bank model implemented in Kilokri across other regions to augment power storage and backup capabilities.

The initiatives undertaken by the power companies will improve the infrastructure in the region and allow the city to keep up with the growing power demands.
