New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, convened a meeting on Wednesday with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, and Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, to assess the progress of ongoing National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects in the national capital.
Following the meeting, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the advantages of the “double-engine” government, referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holding power both at the national and local levels.

“Currently, NHAI is overseeing projects worth ₹35,000 crore in Delhi. Notably, construction is underway for a 7-kilometer underground tunnel connecting Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Road, as well as an elevated road linking the INA to Indira Gandhi International Airport,” Gupta stated.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the NHAI has assumed responsibility for developing a comprehensive drainage system around its roadways. “This initiative will help mitigate issues arising from the involvement of multiple agencies, with the Public Works Department (PWD) providing necessary support,” she added.

Additionally, Gupta announced that the NHAI has approved road overbridge (RoB) and road underbridge (RuB) projects valued at ₹150 crore for Delhi.
“Overall, projects totaling ₹1.25 lakh crore have been executed in Delhi, and I extend my gratitude to the Centre for their support in these endeavors,” she concluded.
