Delhi Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Lightning Expected Today and Tomorrow

Date:

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Monday and Tuesday, signaling the potential for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in the region.

On Monday, the maximum temperature in the capital reached 36.1 degrees Celsius, which is 3.9 degrees below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius, 4.3 degrees below normal.

The IMD forecasts that Delhi will experience generally cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms over the next two days. Gusty winds are expected, ranging from 40 to 50 km/h, with temporary gusts reaching up to 60 km/h during thunderstorms.

On Tuesday, maximum temperatures are anticipated to range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may remain between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, no heat wave conditions are expected during this period.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds are likely throughout the day, prompting the weather office to advise residents to exercise caution.

Cloudy skies and brief rain or storm activity may continue into Wednesday. However, from June 5 onwards, weather conditions are expected to stabilize, with partly cloudy skies and rising temperatures. Daytime highs are projected to reach between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius from June 5 to June 8, while minimum temperatures are expected to gradually increase to between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Despite the anticipated warming trend, the IMD has confirmed that no heat wave conditions are expected over the next seven days. Winds are predicted to shift to a northwesterly direction later in the week, with moderate speeds of 20 to 30 km/h.
