Delhi| Transparency in GST Registration: CBIC Sets the Record Straight on Allegations of Corruption

Date:

New Delhi: On Saturday, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) refuted claims circulating on social media regarding alleged delays and corruption in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration process. The CBIC clarified that the applicant in question had not yet provided the necessary information requested by the Delhi State GST officers.

A LinkedIn user recently expressed frustration over not receiving GST registration despite applying 20 days ago. This post was subsequently shared on X (formerly Twitter) by another user, who accused the authorities of corruption in the registration process.

In response, the CBIC provided clarity on the situation via X, stating that the application was submitted on May 26, 2025, and was promptly assigned to the Delhi State GST department. The CBIC emphasized that the Central GST authorities were not involved in this particular case.

According to the Delhi State GST authorities, the application was processed without delay, but a query was raised regarding the missing designation of the individual who signed the rent agreement on behalf of the company.

“The Application Reference Number (ARN) is currently pending a response from the taxpayer,” the CBIC explained. “The taxpayer has been duly informed, and the application will be processed by the Delhi GST authorities upon receipt of the outstanding information.”

The CBIC urged the public to refrain from disseminating inaccurate information on social media without verifying the facts.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also addressed the issue on X, sharing the CBIC’s response. “A detailed response from @cbic_india. Providing service to taxpayers is our duty. In fulfilling this responsibility, transparency and integrity are essential for earning their trust and confidence. I am confident that the Board and its field formations will remain sensitive and responsive,” she stated.
