Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Commits to a Pollution-Free Yamuna Following Meeting with Amit Shah

Date:

New Delhi:  Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reaffirmed her government’s dedication to achieving a clean Yamuna River during a press conference on Thursday, following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah focused on rejuvenation efforts for the river.

Gupta emphasized that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of restoring the Yamuna to its pristine state, from its source to its confluence. “Both the Central and Delhi governments are united in our commitment to making the Yamuna pollution-free. Our focus is on the segment of the river that flows through Delhi,” she stated.

The meeting included officials from the Jal Shakti Ministry and the Delhi government, who discussed actionable steps toward this critical environmental goal. “We are progressing methodically toward a cleaner Yamuna,” Gupta added.

Official reports indicate that the 22-kilometer stretch of the Yamuna between Wazirabad and Okhla in Delhi, which represents less than 2 percent of the river’s total length, is responsible for a staggering 80 percent of its pollution load. This highlights the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the environmental challenges facing this vital waterway.
