Delhi Cabinet Approves ₹30,000 Subsidy for 3 kW Rooftop Solar Panels

Date:

New Delhi: On Tuesday, the Delhi Cabinet approved a ₹30,000 subsidy for the installation of 3 kW rooftop solar panels. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that residents could save approximately ₹4,200 each month by participating in the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

To enhance the effectiveness and reach of this initiative, the Delhi government has introduced the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana State Top-Up’ scheme. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, the central government provides a subsidy of ₹78,000 for the installation of rooftop solar panels.

Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that the new subsidy structure enables consumers to access solar power solutions with zero initial costs while enjoying an average monthly savings of ₹4,200 on their electricity bills. “This is a transformative step toward building a cleaner and greener Delhi,” she stated.

During the Cabinet meeting, Gupta noted that the approval of the additional ₹30,000 subsidy (₹10,000 per kW) for residential solar installations was a significant decision. This brings the total subsidy to ₹1.08 lakh, marking the highest support offered under any similar scheme to date, according to a statement from the Delhi government.

Earlier, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa remarked, “The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Gupta has approved an additional subsidy of ₹10,000 per kilowatt, totaling ₹30,000 for the installation of 3 kW rooftop solar panels.” The official statement also indicated that a budgetary allocation of ₹50 crore has been made for this initiative, with the goal of installing rooftop solar systems in 230,000 residential units over the next three years.

Gupta announced that the Delhi government is collaborating with financial institutions to provide accessible loan options for financing the remaining installation costs of solar panels with a capacity of up to 3 kW, which amounts to approximately ₹90,000.

This initiative will allow residents to install solar panels without any upfront payment, according to the statement.
