New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, asserting that no one has the right to question the government or the armed forces regarding national security. She emphasized that “a father must consider his country, his family, and the well-being of 1.4 billion Indians.”
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, Gupta stated, “In times of emergency, decisions are made in the best interest of the nation, and the entire country stands united with our armed forces.” Her comments come in response to AAP’s inquiries about the recent agreement between India and Pakistan to halt military actions, raising questions about the circumstances that led to this development and whether justice has been served following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Critics can easily voice their opinions from the comfort of air-conditioned rooms while watching television. It is only those who face such situations firsthand who can make informed decisions. A father must prioritize his country, his family, and the 1.4 billion Indians. Merely making statements is insufficient; no one has the right to question the government or the armed forces,” Gupta argued.
On Tuesday, her predecessor and AAP leader Atishi expressed concern over the recent developments following four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.
The understanding reached between India and Pakistan on Saturday to cease all military actions was initially announced by former US President Donald Trump, who claimed that the two nations had agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire” following US mediation.
However, top government sources clarified that this bilateral understanding resulted from direct engagement between Indian and Pakistani officials, with Islamabad agreeing to the terms without any preconditions, post-conditions, or links to other issues.
In a recent video post on X, Atishi remarked, “Operation Sindoor showcased the bravery of our forces. However, following Trump’s announcement on May 10, the government confirmed a ceasefire. The nation deserves clarity on whether the terrorists in Pahalgam have been apprehended. Have we avenged ‘Sindoor,’ a symbol of married Hindu women?”
Her party colleague and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia called on the government to explain the reasoning behind the “sudden ceasefire decision” during a press conference on Tuesday.
In a televised address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Operation Sindoor for the first time, delivering a stern warning to Pakistan. He emphasized that India will not yield to nuclear blackmail and conveyed a clear message to the international community: terrorism and trade, as well as terrorism and dialogue, cannot coexist.
“Operation Sindoor represents India’s new strategy against terrorism. We have merely paused our operations against Pakistan, and future actions will depend on their conduct,” he stated.
