Fire Rages Through Delhi Traffic Police Yard, Destroying Over 100 Vehicles

Date:

NEW DELHI: A devastating fire broke out at the Nehru Place police yard on Thursday, destroying more than 100 vehicles seized by the Delhi Traffic Police. The incident has sparked an investigation to determine if foul play was involved.

The Delhi Fire Services received a distress call around 2 pm, with witnesses describing thick smoke billowing from the yard as the flames rapidly consumed numerous vehicles. Initially, it was believed that around 50 vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and cars, were affected, leading to the deployment of six fire tenders to battle the blaze for over three hours.

In a subsequent statement, the Delhi Police confirmed that over 100 vehicles were lost in the fire, out of a total of 2,667 vehicles parked in the yard at the time. The exact cause of the fire remains a mystery, with officials from the traffic headquarters currently assessing the extent of the damage.

The police-owned yard served as a storage facility for vehicles involved in accidents and those seized by the traffic police. Despite the significant loss, the police have stated that no compensation will be provided to the owners of the destroyed vehicles, urging them to seek insurance claims for their losses.
